Wear lightweight, breathable clothing that allows for freedom of movement. Avoid heavy fabrics or excess layers that may cause you to overheat.
Bring a yoga mat, a large towel to cover your mat, a water bottle, and consider bringing a change of clothes for after class. Bring another towel if you plan on showering. Rentals are available for $4/piece.
Drink plenty of water throughout the day leading up to your class to stay hydrated. Avoid heavy meals at least 2-3 hours before your class and opt for light, easily digestible foods.
Aim to arrive at the studio at least 20 minutes before the class starts. This allows you to check-in, set up your mat, and acclimate to the heat of the room before the practice begins.
Expect to sweat—a lot! Hot Yoga/Pilates classes typically follow a sequence of poses performed in a heated room, focusing on breath control, flexibility, and strength. Your instructor will guide you through the practice, offering modifications as needed.
Hot Yoga classes are usually heated to 37-40 degrees Celsius and Hot Pilates classes are 35-37 degrees Celsius.
If you’re sensitive to heat, consider setting up closer to the door or choosing a spot near the back corners where it is slightly cooler. Listen to your body and take breaks as needed to prevent overheating.
It’s okay to take breaks, rest in a seated position, or modify poses as needed to ensure your safety and well-being. Listen to your body and do what feels comfortable to you.
You may feel energized, relaxed, and accomplished after your first Hot Yoga/Pilates class. Be sure to replenish your body with water and electrolytes to rehydrate. Some practitioners experience improved mood, increased flexibility, and reduced stress levels after regular practice.
